Stephane Wrembel

Guitarist/Composer

Stephane Wrembel is quite simply one of the finest guitar players in the world. The breadth and range of his playing and compositions are unmatched, establishing him as one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music.

His live performances are unparalleled, having headlined venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Town Hall in NYC, and The Lyon Opera House in France. He has toured extensively, sharing stages with artists like Mark O’Connor, Sam Bush, Stochelo Rosenberg, Esperanza Spalding, and Al Di Meola, and has performed at renowned festivals such as Montreal Jazz Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and Django Reinhardt Festival in France.

Born in Paris and raised in Fontainebleau, Wrembel began his musical journey with classical piano at age four before discovering guitar as a teenager. His influences range from David Gilmour of Pink Floyd to the legendary Django Reinhardt, whose impressionistic style deeply inspired him. Wrembel immersed himself in Sinti culture, learning directly from masters like Angelo Debarre and Serge Krief.

After attending the American School of Modern Music in Paris, Wrembel pursued his studies at Berklee College of Music, where he graduated summa cum laude. He released his debut album in 2002, and his career skyrocketed when his composition “Bistro Fada” became the theme for Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris, earning a spot on the Grammy-winning soundtrack.

Wrembel is the creator of the Django à Gogo Music Festival & Guitar Camp, a global celebration of Sinti-style guitar, held in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and The Town Hall.

From 2017 to 2021, he released The Django Experiment I-VI, reimagining Reinhardt’s music and receiving critical acclaim from Jazz Times, Downbeat, and Acoustic Guitar Magazine. His 2019 project, Django L’Impressionniste, spotlighted Reinhardt’s little-known solo preludes, marking a significant contribution to the legacy of the jazz legend.

In 2023, Wrembel released Django New Orleans, blending Reinhardt’s style with the spirit of New Orleans jazz, showcasing his genre-defying musical approach.

I just play my own music,” Wrembel says. “It’s beyond any one genre—it’s for the music lover.”
