Workshop for young musicians

For the fourth consecutive year, the American School of Modern Music is organizing a summer workshop for young people aged 14 to 17, focused on multiple instruments and vocals around jazz, improvisation, and contemporary music. The workshops are run by the teams and professors of the American School of Modern Music at its facilities in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. The workshop will conclude with a concert on Friday evening at Sunset / Sunside on rue des Lombards.

The Level

The workshops are designed to welcome musicians of varying levels:

  • “Introductory” level: open to all, aimed at amateur musicians who wish to discover improvisation, jazz harmony, comping, standards, and the working methods of high-level musicians.
  • “Intermediate” to “Advanced” level: for musicians who already have a solid foundation in jazz, harmony, music theory, and improvisation, and who wish to spend a week in full immersion with an exceptional team of musicians.

The Place

The workshop will take place in full immersion with the teams from the American School of Modern Music at its facilities in the 15th arrondissement, equipped with music studios and all necessary gear on site.

Located in the heart of Paris, the venue is surrounded by numerous food and accommodation options.

The American School of Modern Music

A Parisian institution since 1982, the American School of Modern Music is a top-tier music school that trains professionals in all areas of the music industry (instrumentalists, composers, arrangers, performers, sound engineers, producers, etc.), drawing inspiration from the working methods and academic programs of the best American universities.

Its faculty, unique in France, is made up of internationally renowned artists who have received numerous distinctions (Grammy Awards, Victoires de la Musique, Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, degrees from top American universities, etc.).

The program

The classes will be led by professors from the faculty of the American School of Modern Music.

Morning (9 AM – 12 PM)

  • Theory classes (Harmony, Ear Training, Rhythm, Repertoire)

Afternoon (2 PM – 6:30 PM)

  • Instrument classes: group lessons organized by instrument (1h30)
  • Ensemble classes: group sessions to apply repertoire work and prepare for the public concert on Friday evening (1h30)
  • Labs: small group workshops on specific topics (1h30)

Evening

  • Jam Sessions every evening
  • Final student concert open to the public on Friday evening

The team reserves the right to adjust certain workshops or make changes depending on the needs that may arise from one session to another.
